Solar power plant on the balcony: offsetting the rise in electricity prices and saving on bills.

In the modern world, where energy resources are constantly increasing in price, balcony solar systems allow reducing housing maintenance costs and play a supporting role for the overall energy system. Such mini solar power plants are particularly relevant for residents of urban apartments who do not have the opportunity to install solar panels on roofs. They allow efficient use of the limited balcony space for green energy production. In addition to saving on electricity bills, solar panels on the balcony also help reduce the carbon footprint, which is important in the context of the global fight against climate change.

Könner & Söhnen® Balcony Solar System

Könner & Söhnen® offers both components and a complete kit for installing a solar power plant on a balcony. The kit for such a station includes:

  • KS SP430-HC Solar Panels and Mounting: The system is equipped with two modern solar panels, each with a power of 430 W. They feature a doubled Half-Cell type of cells, as well as are manufactured using advanced TOPCon technology, which ensures a high conversion rate of solar light into electrical energy, significantly increasing the overall performance of the system. The battery comes with 4 MC4 cables, each 3 m long. Solar panels can be installed on a balcony using special KS BSP2 solar panel mounts.
  • KS 2240BSB Intelligent Battery: A modern LiFePo4 battery is installed in a compact and stylish housing with IP65 protection class, making it resistant to various weather conditions. This battery has a capacity of 2240 Wh and provides up to 6000 charge-discharge cycles. Battery control is via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, allowing you to easily configure and monitor its operation.
  • KS MI800W Microinverter: This inverter can inject up to 800 W per hour of solar energy into the central grid, allowing you to significantly reduce the consumption of traditional electricity. For its operation, a voltage of 230V in the network is required. Featuring an aluminum housing with a high degree of IP67 protection, the microinverter ensures reliable operation in all weather conditions.
  • Control System: With the Power Zero mobile application, you can in real time monitor the operation of your solar system, configure operating modes, and monitor energy consumption. This provides complete control over your energy efficiency and allows to optimize the use of generated energy.

All system components are designed to be as protected, reliable, and efficient as possible, while also being compact and aesthetically pleasing. Such a solar power plant on a balcony will use a minimum of space and at the same time provide high performance (up to 800 W) even in urban conditions.

Advantages of a Balcony Solar Power Plant

Installing a balcony solar system from Könner & Söhnen® opens up new possibilities for using renewable energy sources in an urban environment. These systems offer a number of key advantages that provide not only cost savings but also contribute to the ecological well-being of the city.

What does the owner of such a system get?

  1. Saving money due to free solar energy.
The system's solar panels can generate up to 800 W of electricity per hour, which you can use to meet your needs, reducing dependence on the city's power grid and saving on electricity costs.
  2. Efficient use of resources and 100% use of solar energy.
The system is optimized for maximum use of every ray of the sun. Unused energy can be stored in the battery pack for later consumption at night or during periods of insufficient sunlight.
  3. Intelligent control and automated energy storage system.
Balcony systems Könner & Söhnen® are equipped with smart batteries and software that allow you to configure charging modes depending on user needs and external conditions. Also You can easily manage all system parameters via the Power Zero mobile application, tracking production, consumption, and energy storage in real time, regardless of your location.
  4. Reliability and durability: 10+ years of stable operation.
Balcony solar systems from Könner & Söhnen® are designed for long-term operation, designed for more than 10 years of reliable service. This makes them a profitable investment in the future.
  5. Easy installation and minimal maintenance.
The system consists of modules that are easy to install and connect, providing simple integration without the need for constant technical maintenance.
  6. A product that contributes to environmental protection.
Installing a solar power plant on the balcony helps reduce the negative impact on the environment, as the use of renewable energy sources replaces traditional fuels, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions gas and other harmful substances. This allows everyone to contribute to the protection of the environment and the fight against global warming.

Simple Installation Process and Tips for Optimizing Location

Installation of the Könner & Söhnen® balcony solar system is a process that can be done independently, without involving specialized professionals or using special equipment. However, to ensure optimal system operation and maximize its efficiency, it is important to consider several key aspects.

Installation Steps

  1. Location Selection: First of all, you need to choose a suitable place on the balcony for solar panels, microinverter, and battery. Consider the lengths of the cables for connecting system components. So the cable from the inverter to the socket is 5m long, and the cables from the panels to the battery are 3m each. Ideally, the solar panels should be located facing south for maximum use of sunlight during the day.
  2. Panel Mounting: You can install solar panels on the balcony vertically (on the railings or wall) or at an angle using mounts. Make sure the panels are securely fastened to avoid them falling from the wind.
  3. Connecting Electrical Components: Connect the solar panels to the KS 2240BSB battery, and connect the battery outputs to the inputs on the microcontroller. The microcontroller itself, before starting operation, will need to be plugged into a 230V socket. This entire connection process will take you only a few minutes, as all cables are marked and have reliable connectors.
  4. System Testing: After installation and connection, check the system for operability. It is important to ensure that all elements are working correctly and safely.

Tips for Optimizing Location

  • Panel Orientation: The largest amount of solar energy can be obtained if the panels are oriented to the south. In autumn and winter months, when the sun is lower on the horizon, it is advisable to have the ability to adjust the tilt angle of the panels for better light collection.
  • Avoiding Shadows: Check that shadows from trees, buildings, or other large objects do not fall on your solar panels. Even partial shading can significantly reduce system efficiency.

Various Usage Scenarios and Configurations

The Könner & Söhnen® balcony solar system can be configured for various operating modes. By connecting via the application to the KS 2240BSB intelligent battery, you can set its operating parameters. Here is described a more detailed analysis of the main system settings, and below we will briefly consider the main ones.

Main Settings

  1. Output Power: The battery has two separate MPPT inputs and 2 separate outputs to the microinverter. Each of these outputs can be configured independently, allowing users to flexibly set the output power depending on needs.
The presence of 2 MPPT controllers allows to connect each solar panel separately and optimally use them, even if the lighting conditions differ for them. This is important, for example, when one panel is in the shade and the other is in the sun.
  2. "Charge and then discharge" Mode: In this mode, the battery is first charged from the solar panels. When the battery is fully charged, the accumulated energy can be used in the evening or at other times of increased consumption. If the input power from the solar panels stops, the battery automatically switches to discharge mode, supplying power to the outputs according to the set discharge power.
  3. "Pass through" Mode: In this mode, the battery is charged only when more energy comes from the solar panels than is needed for the set output power level. This allows direct use of solar energy for current needs without accumulation, which is ideal for daytime when there is enough light.
  4. Maximum Allowable Discharge Level (DOD): This parameter determines how deeply the battery can be discharged before discharge needs to be stopped. Upon reaching the set level DOD, the outputs are automatically turned off, protecting the battery from over-discharge.

In the application, you can also set the power for specific hours, forming a schedule for the station's operation based on your energy consumption patterns. All these settings and features make your balcony solar power plant a very adaptable and efficient system, allowing you to optimize the accumulation and use of solar energy.
