Diesel or gasoline generator?

The main element of the generator is the engine, the potential of which will determine the life of the power station. It can be a diesel or gasoline engine. A generator with a gasoline engine is more affordable, has smaller dimensions and is less noisy. The gasoline engine is designed for 2500-3000 hours of operation.

As for the diesel engine , its resource is much higher, while it consumes less fuel. Diesel generators have a number of advantages - economy, durability, cheaper and safer fuel. There is one significant disadvantage - diesel generators are much more expensive than gasoline models of the same power, although at the expense of cheaper fuel, the difference in price quickly pays off. It should also be noted that diesel generators are noisier, so it is better to choose models in a noise-absorbing housing. A diesel generator will require more space, as its size and weight are greater.

When choosing between petrol and diesel, the following rules should be taken into account:
If the equipment is to act as an emergency power source in the event of a power failure, a petrol or diesel generator can be purchased . But continuous operation of the generator should not exceed 5-6 hours, so that the engine does not overheat.  Petrol generators  are air-cooled, which is only suitable for using the generator as a backup, not as a main power source. Könner & Söhnen diesel generators up to 10 kW are also air-cooled.

Diesel generators can be air-cooled or liquid-cooled. Air-cooled diesel generators will have a much longer engine life, but the cost of such a generator will not be small - such generators are no longer portable and are installed permanently. If the power station is needed for a continuous uninterrupted power supply, it is necessary to opt for liquid-cooled diesel models (models over 10 kW). Liquid-cooled generators are mostly used in industry or as the main power source in country houses.

Good luck with your purchases, long live the light! :)
